Rev. Brian Kottas began leading the Eagle United Methodist Church and Alvo United Methodist Church on July 1, 2019
Rev. Brian Kottas was born in 1951 in rural southeastern Nebraska and raised on the family farm near Milligan, Nebraska. He received his bachelor’s degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University with a major in psychology and went on to receive his PhD from Vanderbilt University in 1978.
It was while working as a Research Psychologist at the U.S. Army Research Institute at Fort Knox, Kentucky that a co-worker introduced him to Jesus Christ. He and his wife, Jeanne, committed their lives to Christ and were baptized at a United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. As the couple and their two sons grew in their Christian faith and became more involved in the church’s ministries, Brian began to sense a call to Pastoral Ministry. He entered Asbury Seminary in 1983 and received a M.Div. in 1986.
Brian served churches in Kentucky until the family returned to Nebraska in 1989. He served several local churches as well as serving as the Superintendent of two districts.
Brian and his wife, Jeanne, are currently serving the Eagle and Alvo United Methodist Churches. Brian chairs the District Committee on Ministry, is involved in activities in local school districts and manages the operation of the family farm. He and Jeanne have two sons and three grandchildren. He enjoys reading, writing, music, watching college athletics, and attending his grandchildren’s activities.
